Designer Belts: Your Wardrobe’s Defining Piece

June 20, 2009

Designer belts can be as individual as the person wearing them. Regardless of your style aesthetic, there is a gorgeous, designer belt that’s perfect for you. An eye-catching belt is one of the best and most interesting ways to spice up a drab dress or boring outfit. The possibilities are endless.

These days there are designer belts of every size, shape and style to flatter all figures. Skinny belts hearken back to the 1950s and add a touch of femininity. Dyed leather belts in various hues are a fun way to incorporate a taste of color into an outfit. Ann Taylor’s skinny rope belt in grass green and Julie K’s bright yellow Katie belt add playful shots of color at the waist.

Slim metal link belts like Yves Saint Laurent’s chain belt or even skinny metallic leather belts like Prada’s gold Saffiano plaque buckle belt give a cool, metallic effect. Beautiful leather belts with embellished buckles, like Roberto Cavalli’s gorgeous chunky, funky green stone-embellished waist belt add glamour to even dressed-down jeans.

Thick belts make a bold statement and add drama to slim, hourglass figures. Alexander McQueen’s fierce cutout patent leather belt is unbelievably hot paired with a body-hugging bandage dress or a pencil skirt for a super-sleek 1980s vixen look. By contrast, Stella McCartney’s “ballerina” blush pink wide lace up belt feels soft and sweet paired with summer dresses and skirts in neutral shades.

If you’re not sure how best to wear your belt, check Internet retail sites that carry designer belts. Many offer excellent advice on the type of clothing with which you can wear your belt. They can also give you pointers on what belt will be most flattering on your figure type. With a sense of adventure and a little know-how, your designer belt can easily become the defining piece in your wardrobe.

80s Fashion: Totally Radical

June 19, 2009

For those Generation Xers who never thought they’d see the extreme puffy and acid-washed 80s fashion return to the forefront of style in the 21st Century – how wrong you were! From classic Lacoste and monogrammed preppy style to vintage Madonna “Lucky Star” looks, the best of 80s fashion is back for a whole new generation of fashionistas.

The hottest looks in fashion today are totally retro, right out of the 80s. Thankfully, today’s 80s fashion has a sharper, smarter, and more sophisticated edge. Elegant one shoulder tops and dresses show how the old 80s fashion style has evolved into modern, artful pieces. Skinny jeans are the perfection of what the “pinned” jeans of yesteryear were going for. Today they are form fitting, flattering and ultra chic.

As in the 80s, bigger is still better. Celebrities like Kate Moss, Beyonce and Drew Barrymore have shown off their “bigger” qualities on the red carpet recently – big shoulder pads, big, puffy sleeves and big ruffled skirts.
Leggings, which never entirely disappeared off the fashion radar, are back with a vengeance and have once again become a women’s fashion mainstay.

Even accessories are big and flashy. From oversized, metallic handbags to thick belts to chunky earrings, necklaces and layered bangle bracelets, a return to 80s fashion makes a bold statement.

Luxe 80s fabrics are also back in full force. Real fur coats and form-fitting leather jackets have donned the likes of fashion icons like Sarah Jessica Parker and Victoria Beckham as of late.

Even dressed-down, off the shoulder tops paired with classic Reebok footwear has made its way to the red carpet on Scarlett Johansson. Sexy is also “back” with 80s hallmark lingerie as day wear and the definitive 80s mini skirt – in ruffles, leather, and even madras plaid.

Whether you were there the first time or are just discovering the appeal of 80s style, it’s a bold, colorful statement for the new millennium.
